The IDEAS PLACE or also known as THE ORACLE OF BERLIN
describes an urban art project that is unique in the world and is to be built as a virtual program for cell phone use.
The project was originally planned as a specific construction project on Berlin's Mehringplatz.
The PLATZ DER IDEEN invites its visitors to ask questions and playfully and independently work out their answers. The installation consciously refers to the surrounding architecture as well as to natural features.
In 2020 Voges was invited to realize his concept as a natural installation in the Harz (see: THE ORACLE OF MÄGDESPRUNG).

Meeting with Confucius - The artist wants to make Mehringplatz the “world's first street oracle”
At some point, Mehringplatz revealed itself to the concept artist Bonger Voges as an oracle. Five years ago, when he lived nearby and had to cross the square every day, questions popped up in his mind: Why do I look the way I do? Why does this place look the way it looks? Then Bonger Voges came up with the idea: This square must become a place of communication. ...
Bonger Voges imagined the use of the street oracle as follows: Think up a question that cannot be answered with yes or no and go to a flag whose color suits you at the moment. At the foot of the flag is the appropriate wisdom from the I-Ching, the Book of Changes. A twelve-meter-high figure by the sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle is to stand at each of the two entrances to the square: a sun and a moon gate. ...
Voges and his partner Kristijana Penava consulted the Feng Shui consultant Lin Yun Thomas (USA) and Chung Ying Cheng, the president of the Association for International I-Ching Research, for their project. The Chinese ambassador is also enthusiastic about the project. In the meantime, an entire association called “Orakel von Berlin” is taking care of the project. Not only the artist considers a redesign of the square to be overdue. SPD building senator Peter Strieder is also in favor. A concrete block with apartments barricades the view of the square, the hedges are scruffy. Recycling containers block Friedrichstrasse. Where there is still undergrowth today, the I-Ging text panels will later be embedded in the ground.
Voges: "The Mehringplatz is an introverted place that screams to come back to life." The square is a listed building. Even removing the hedges could be problematic. “In principle, we can imagine a complementary artistic perspective,” says monument protector Klaus Lingenauber - if this would eliminate the desolate situation on the square. "But there are still a lot of questions." In the coming weeks, the authority wants to deal more closely with the drafts. The housing association WIR supports Voges` plan. … .. Bonger Voges is certain that multitudes of Berliners and tourists will ask his oracle for advice. ...
